TECHNICAL MOUNTAINEERING ONLY 30 MINUTES AWAY FROM SOFIA

The walls and ridges of Vitosha's Rezen peak are home to some of the earliest alpine routes climbed in our country and offer the most classic form of fast and light summer mountaineering.
The quick access from Aleko Refuge, the low to moderate difficulty of the climbs and the great views from these jagged mountains make them attractive to both novice and experienced climbers alike.

  • 250 to 350 meters of technical alpine climbing on beautiful granite with varying rock formations.

  • Quiet, unpopular and panoramic routes, only 30 minutes away from Sofia.

ITINERARY

  • Arrival by private car or public transport (bus 66) at Hotel Moreni

  • Walk along a forest path and through moraines to the base of the Rezen rock massif - 40-50 minutes

  • Climbing an alpine ridge with a length of 250-350m and graded 3- to about 4+. Around 2:30 – 3:30.
    NOTE: Routes up to 6b+ are available!

  • Descent back to the Aleko refuge / Moreni hotel and departure – 1-1:30h

  • Required equipment:

    • comfortable clothes with long sleeves - a blouse or shirt and light, comfy trousers
    • Top shell - membrane jacket or windbreaker
    • down and/or fleece jacket (hooded)
    • Sunscreen
    • a light comfortable backpack (20-30L)
    • climbing shoes and approach shoes or comfortable running shoes with excellent sole traction
    • food and water
    • the leader
    • hiking poles (optional)
