PROGRAM
Day 0
We’ll meet in the evening on the day before the hike at the Popina Laka area, not far from the town of Sandanski. If you need transportation, we can help arrange it. We’ll get to know each other and hand out the necessary equipment. Now we’ll take a short hike in the dark to the Begovitsa hut, where we’ll spend the night. The hut is located in the middle of a beautiful coniferous forest and offers warm rooms and a restaurant.
Distance: 5 km
Elevation gain: 550 m+
Duration: 2,5 hours
Day 1
We start the snowy morning with a cup of tea or coffee, and after breakfast we set off up the valley of Begovitsa river. Gradually, more and more of the Pirin peaks will come into view, led by the majestic Yalovarnika (2765 m). Our first major destination for today is the Begovishki pass. From this spot, superb views open up onto the vast glacial cirque where our shelter is located. After a well-deserved rest here, we’ll begin a short descent, following the safest route away from the avalanche terrains.
Finally, we have the last ascent to the Tevno Lake shelter ahead of us. Throughout the hike, the breathtaking alpine landscapes will give us strength and courage. Once we reach the shelter and settle in, we’ll have plenty of time to enjoy this magical place and enjoy the sunset over the ridge above the shelter. Then it’s time for dinner and a good night’s sleep.
Distance: 5 km
Elevation gain: 250 m+
Duration: 2,5 hours
Day 2
Today will begin in a very special way! We’ll get up at the crack of dawn and climb the nearby Momin Dvor peak while it’s still dark. From the top, we’ll witness one of the most beautiful sunrises of our lives! We’ll watch as the sun gradually rises above the sea of snow-capped peaks. The frosty landscape will suddenly glow with the warm colours of the new day!
Once we’ve enjoyed this wonderful natural spectacle, we’ll head back down to the shelter for breakfast. Then we’ll return to the starting point along the same route, following the trail we made the previous day. We’ll stop for lunch at the Begovitsa hut and will soon be back at our cars to head home satisfied and happy.
